Essay

The book that tought me a lot

Nowdays there are a lot of books in our world. They are differ from each other. Some of them are interesting and some are not, but it depends on a reader. As for me, to choose a book for reading is a complicated process, because I am very fickle reader. I may choose a book then read only a chaptrer and finish with it, but I can also begin to read a book from a middle even if it is a story. I have read a book written by James Herriot. He is not a professional writer, he is a veterinerian. Unfortunateky he died some yeard ago. He lived in London but after graduating the university he moved to Yorkshire, England. He liked that place and stayed there. He also got married there. As he was a vet he was treating domestic animals. In his books he writes about it, some of them have happy end and some not. When I have been reading sad stories I was crying. Mr. Herriot writes that people called him even at night when he was sleeping and asked for help for their animals. The author got up immedeatly and and went there to save them. I can say that James Herriot's books tought me to help people, if I can do anything, any time they need my help. It is very important today because there are a lot of stale people. They think only about their benefit, they do not see what happens around us. His books tought me to love animals. I know a lot of vets and a lot of them treat animals like they are goods. But James Herriot really loves them. He feels death and illness of his patients keenly. I have four dogs at home and I percieve them like members of my family. They are a part of me, of my life. Once when I lost one of my pets I took it's death hardly like I have lost a person. I could not sleep, eat and talk. It was awful.
I want to say that people should be kind, responsive, empathize with each other. May be for someone this book is not interesting, as we know tastes differ, but I think there should be more such books which can teach us a lot.

I, actually, haven't read books by this writer but I understand why you have made up your mind to read the book up to the end - your obsession for pug dogs defines the choice of book to read. The stories about helping others, especially animals as they are real, helpless, kind and defenseless, is not bad to read about. But I think it's impossible to read about it and immediately star to help others. I mean that it's impossible to be taught to be kind to others, to come anytime when your friend needs it or feed homeless animal when you see it in the street. I think this is inborn feeling of not indifference and desire to do your best in order to help someone. I like, Zara, that you feel compassion to animals and that you are a good person to rely on.

I adore books about animals. Unfortunately, I haven't read books by Herroit. But this animal theme is very close to me, because I have a dream:I want to found an orphanige for homeless animals. Every time when I see a hungry dog or an injured cat, I can't help but crying. I want to help them, give them a shelter and stop their sufferings.I can't understand how people can be so indifferent to these creatures.I am very proud of people, who help animals, like that doctor. Good always wons evil.Even in this severe world people are able for generosity.
I would like you to recommed a book of short stories by Ernest Setton Tompson. This is a marvelous writer, whose manner of writing and true animal stories fascinate from the first line. This author is worth reading.
